Theo: Our school dog

Theo, our school therapy dog, has become a cherished member of our school community. With his gentle demeanour and calming presence, Theo plays an integral role in supporting children with additional needs, including those with anxiety, autism, school refusal, and social or emotional difficulties. He has touched the hearts of students and staff alike, making the school environment a more welcoming and inclusive place.

For children who face challenges in their daily lives, Theo provides a unique form of comfort and connection. His non-judgmental nature helps students feel safe and valued, often acting as a bridge to build trust and communication. For children experiencing anxiety or school refusal, spending time with Theo can transform their day, giving them the confidence to engage more fully with school activities.

In classrooms, Theo is a source of motivation and joy. Students take turns reading to him, finding encouragement in his attentive and soothing presence. For children who may struggle with reading or confidence, Theo creates a stress-free environment that fosters improvement and enjoyment. Additionally, students take responsibility for his care, learning important lessons about empathy, compassion, and routine.

The positive impact Theo has had on the school community is immeasurable. Teachers have noticed significant improvements in students' behaviour, emotional regulation, and willingness to participate in class. He has also helped foster friendships among peers, as children bond over their shared affection for Theo.

Theo reminds us all of the power of connection and the difference a four-legged friend can make. His unwavering support and affection enrich the lives of everyone he meets, making him an irreplaceable part of our school family.
